Biography
RALEIGH, NC. Sam is a retired ecologist with 35 years of experience planning and implementing land conservation and environmental protection. Since retirement, He has become a professional storyteller whose practice is to tell tall tales and especially true tales based on his own experiences. Sam strongly prefers telling to live audiences and has been a regular at the Front Porch Story Festival in Raleigh, NC, the Bynum Front Porch events in Bynum, NC, Stone Soup Storytelling events in Woodruff, SC and Monti curated events and slams in central NC. In early 2017, Sam founded and began producing Roadhouse Storytellers® at the Pittsboro Roadhouse in downtown Pittsboro. These storytelling shows have featured over 75 story tellers from seven states, and now take place at the Page-Walker Arts and History Center in Cary, NC. Roadhouse events regularly sell out.
Sam believes that we are all made of stories! Stories are what we remember, what we dream of, and how we think of each other. Every story has joy, wisdom, and truth in it. And every story is a whole world. As the author John Crowley said, “with any good story, the further in you go, the bigger it gets.”
